Hi guys! Sorry for the long, long hiatus. Just managed to sort things out and finally can start writing again.
Recently, I visited the newly opened Lucky Number Wan, which is located in Puri Indah, exactly next to Simetri Coffee Roasters. Lucky Number Wan is a modern Chinese teahouse in a cafe concept. The name “Wan” brings more Chinese touch to the brand and it rhymes with “one”. The logo of an old man doing tai chi just perfectly symbolized the shop.
The store here has three storeys with the third one is for VIP needs. You can also enjoy be seated in the balcony on the second floor. Going inside the store, you will feel a minimalist concept of a cafe with some traditional Chinese decoration. Love the way how they blend together.
As a teahouse, Lucky Number Wan does serve a range of artisanal tea. The tea can be served hot and cold, but some can be hot only. One that I tried is Hot Imperial Green Tea (IDR 35K). It was served with a pot and a small cup, just like the traditional Chinese tea, they added another container to store the freshly brewed tea. The Hot Imperial Green Tea was pretty nice, it got a bitter hint from the green tea and some nutty flavor.
Food here is dominated by Chinese-style food. Here are some that I tried. As a starter, I picked this Braised Pork Bao (IDR 45K). It consisted of a steamed bao with braised pork belly, red cabbage and roasted nut. The braised pork belly was really tender and rich in taste, but had too much fat on it.
Next one is Triple Pork Rice Bowl (IDR 70K), a rice bowl served with pork chop, braised pork and crispy pork. This is the ultimate comfort food. Served in a quite big bowl, I got full toppings of the three-way pork and some shredded seaweed, ‘sayur asin’ , I got one full soft-boiled egg too. I don’t know if I can say the pork chop as its name, as it was served as diced pork meat. The best part was the crispy pork, it was pork meat covered in flour and deep fried. It was tasty and just perfect on crispiness level. Combine it with the rice and soy sauce to get the perfect combination.
I also tried Sous Vide Chinese Style Pork Chop (IDR 95K), sous vide grilled pork chop with with honey chili sauce served with fried bao drenched with garlic sauce. Pork chop was a bit tough in texture and, but was pretty nice actually in terms of taste. Loved how the honey chili sauce blended with the pork. The fried bao was like garlic bread since it was drenched with garlic sauce. It was fried nicely resulting the golden brown color and fragrant too.
Lastly, after I finished eating and paid the bill, they gave fortune cookies! A nice little touch from Lucky Number Wan.
Final say, Lucky Number Wan is pretty decent go-to place to hangout over a cup of tea or two, some upgrade on food would be very nice. Congratulations on the opening, Lucky Number Wan!
